With its mix of historical characters,realistic fictional heros and heroines as well as magic and time travel,I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. Joanne Wadsworth has done it again. She has utterly captivated me with a story of a rugged Scottish highlander and the woman he stands as champion, warrior and protector for. Arianna MacLeod Cunningham has fallen through a time portal, opened by Zenia MacLeod. Arianna falls through injured and near death, landing practically on the toes of James MacDonald. Although he is smitten by the new arrival, conflict between their clans keeps them apart, except for the occasional secret visit. Arianna, stuck in the 15th century is desperate to get word to her father in the 21st that she is safe, and that he could take steps to prevent coming down with cancer. The logistics of this, as you might suspect will be difficult to overcome.
Fast forward four years and Arianna finds herself in James company in the open at her clan's highland games. There is no denying the attraction between them. Add to the attraction opportunity in the form of adjoining rooms in the castle and a sweet, sexy love story unfolds. James is bent on claiming Arianna for his own and helping her get word to her father. To that end, they visit the area her family has called home for centuries.
Wadsworth weaves an intricate tale, as she always does. Arianna is smart and strong and willing to love, and James is kind, compassionate and head over tails in love with the woman. Just when it seems nothing will stand in their way, Wadsworth tosses in an event that it appears cannot be overcome. I loved this book, I love the entire series. The story is well written and magically woven to make sure I, as the reader, was as trapped in the time as Arianna. I'd highly recommend this novel to everyone who loves a great love story.
Arianna MacLeod Cunningham has travelled to the past. She finds herself living in the late 1500s. She desperately wants to return to her time so that she can save her father. She's drawn to James MacDonald and is falling in love with him, but she can never follow through with her desire. She won't break his heart when she goes back. Can she be strong? Arianna is a wonderful character. I love her strength and her ability to adapt to her situation. She loves life and responds to the people around her. James is a true Highland warrior. He's both fierce and tender and most of all he's an honorable man. They make a wonderful couple. I love the wild and untamed Scottish setting. It creates a perfect atmosphere for this passionate romance. The secondary characters are colorful and compelling. I especially liked Zenia, a healer who has magical powers. Her love and caring are powerful. The paranormal element combined with the magic of the Highlands drew me into this romance. Joanne Wadsworth did a wonderful job. The surprising twist at the ending took me completely by surprise. The Highlander Heat series just keeps getting better.

Wasn't sure at first but the more I read the more I liked. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series and more books from this author.
